Angie and Mike’s Wickliffe House wedding features fresh spring colors of blue, blush and white. The couple worked together on every detail. Angie even noted that Mike suggested blue hydrangeas to match their wedding colors. Teamwork is nothing new to this duo who met seven years ago at work. Being just a few cubicles a part, their friendship flourished, and a few years later, they became just as inseparable outside of work. When they’re not at the office, they enjoy hiking, camping, and boating, often times including their fur baby, Copper, along for their adventures.

While getting to know them, I loved hearing about their perfectly imperfect proposal. Especially because it involves pistachios (I have a bag of them in my nightstand as we speak for late night snacking). Angie and Mike were vacationing in Brevard, NC to hike and relax in Dupont Forest. On an 8-mile route, they stopped for lunch near a pier where Mike mentioned he packed Angie’s favorite snack, pistachios. But before Mike could propose, a group of young boys came charging by to hangout by the pier. Noticeably irritated, Mike packed up their lunch, pistachios included, and they headed back to the cabin. Later that day, they packed a picnic of cheese, wine and pistachios and decided to bring Copper along for the action. Angie details the rest:

“As I walked Cop in the water, Mike set up a little picnic area. We snacked on crackers and cheese and talked about whatever came to mind. I suddenly remembered the pistachios and grabbed the tupperware container that Mike had placed them in. Mike continued the conversation as I popped open the lid. Inside, Mike had placed a napkin on top of the pistachios and on top of that was this gorgeous shiny ring. At first, I honestly didn’t realize what it was. Then the realization set in. On this the most romantic and wonderful days of my life, all I could muster was ‘That’s not a pistachio’. He laughed and said no, then sweetly asked if I would marry him. All I could do was nod. We hugged, we kissed and he continued the proposal with the sweetest, most kind words I’ve ever heard. After we both regained our composure, he told me why he had gotten so upset earlier in the day. The pier is where he had decided to propose, which to his credit, would have been beauitful and peaceful. But as I looked around where we he had ended up….off a trail with no one around, next to a rushing river, Copper next to us, wine in hand….I told him I knew we had ended up in the perfect spot.”

I often tell couples on their wedding day that things rarely go as planned, but they go as they should. Angie and Mike’s proposal is a great example of that as well. Their wedding even included some unexpected elements like tourists asking permission to photo bomb some of their couple portraits. And those strangers brought it, with face masks and all. The couple also wanted to include a bridesmaid who was unable to attend due to being near the end of her pregnancy. A printout portrait glued to a wooden stick served as her stand-in. Though not literally present, her paper cutout posed in some portraits and even made a cameo on the dance floor later in the night. It is evident that Angie and Mike care most about having a good time with the ones they love most and undoubtedly they created plenty of unforgettable memories with friends and family during their destination wedding week in Charleston. Congrats to Angie and Mike!
